Coast Change Research Fellow 

The world-renowned Energy and Environment Institute (EEI) at the University of Hull offers postgraduate education and research of international standing into how communities adapt to our changing world.   

We are now seeking a Coastal Change Research Fellow (CCRF) to conduct a programme of community-based research involving a wide range of stakeholders to co-create a better transition in areas of rapid coastal erosion. 

Collaborating closely with the Changing Coasts East Riding Project (CCER), the postholder will support delivery of the CCER Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Plan and will establish and deliver coastal change CPD materials to integrate with the EEI’s successful MSc in Flood Risk Management. CCER is part of the Coastal Transition Acceleration Programme, funded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs as part of the £200 million Flood and Coastal Innovation Programme managed by the Environment Agency and delivered by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.  

You will have a PhD or equivalent experience, knowledge and understanding in community engagement research with an emerging research track record. Liaising with external project partners to deliver joint research or policy outputs and with experience of designing and delivering teaching at either undergraduate or postgraduate level are also required. Having designed and delivered public engagement activities and/or working with community groups would be desirable, as would a knowledge and understanding of coastal processes. 

This 3-year position offers excellent career development opportunities including managing significant elements of a work package, speaking at international academic conferences and co-authoring publications.  

 

Salary:  Band 7 (£38,205 - £44,263)

Essential Selection Criteria:  

  • A PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field
  • An emerging track record in an appropriate research field
  • Preparation and delivery of presentations at conferences/workshops
  • Knowledge and understanding of community engagement
  • Experience of designing and delivering teaching at either UG or PG level
  • Experience monitoring and evaluation data and writing reports and summaries from data collected
  • Experience engaging with policy makers and other external stakeholders
  • Evidence of ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Evidence of working in an open and transparent way, providing information and communicating effectively with colleagues
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
  • Strong interest in working with others in a multi/inter-disciplinary environment
  • An expectation to positively contribute to University activities and initiatives which may include open days, graduation ceremonies, etc., and have a willingness to undertake administrative activities
  • An expectation to positively contribute to the project activities
  • Strong organisational skills
