Are you an accomplished finance professional ready to shape the financial future of a forward-thinking institution? The University of Hull is seeking a Director of Finance to join our dynamic team, reporting directly to the Chief Finance Officer. This is a pivotal role that will play a key part in the strategic financial management of the University, ensuring our continued growth and success as we look forward to our centenary year in 2027.
The successful post holder will be someone who can lead, co-ordinate and liaise in association with and on behalf of the CFO, both now and in the challenging but exciting times ahead for the Higher Education Sector.
About the Role
As Director of Finance, you will be responsible for leading and managing the University's financial operations, overseeing all aspects of financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and control. You will provide expert financial advice and support to senior leadership, contributing to strategic decision-making and ensuring robust financial governance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Overseeing financial reporting, including statutory accounts and management information.
- Developing and implementing financial policies and procedures, including the successful implementation and development of Workday ERP.
- Managing cash flow, investments, and treasury functions.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards.
- Providing strategic financial analysis and insights to support university objectives.
- Leading and developing a high-performing finance team alongside deputising for the CFO
About You
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual with a proven track record in a senior finance role, ideally within the higher education sector or a large, complex organisation. You will be a qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience.
You will also possess:
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop a team.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
- A strategic mindset with the ability to contribute to broader organisational goals.
- A thorough understanding of financial regulations and best practices.
