The School of the Arts within the Faculty of Arts, Cultures, and Education is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Game Design (Arts Focus) as an addition to the Screen Subject Area. The post holder will provide teaching and scholarship within Game Design as well as contributing to the other digital media provision within this area. This is an excellent opportunity to join this expanding team and work in our new Media Hub, opened in summer of 2021, with both Mac and PC based labs and a VR suite. There is an opportunity to work across this School with other areas such as Drama, Music (including production), as well as provision within the areas of Film and Media. The School benefits from strong industry links with organisations such as Game Republic, Screen Yorkshire, Opera North, and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. As well as the new Media Hub the School also has access to a world-class concert hall, a Gulbenkian Centre, and a suite of industry-standard recording and AV studios equipped with Solid State Logic Consoles and PMC monitoring systems.
The ideal candidate will have either industry experience or a PhD in a related field. We are particularly keen to hear from applicants who have expertise in some of the following areas:
- Knowledge of design theory in relation to video games and interactive entertainment media, design principles, sequence and narrative, 2D/3D animation principles, 3D sculpting, 3D modelling and texturing (Maya, Substance Painter), concept art, 3D character design (ZBrush), Visual FX, and immersive technology.
