The Student Services Directorate seeks to appoint a Mental Health Practitioner (Maternity Cover) to join the existing team.
The Directorate aims to enhance the student experience through the provision of high-quality advice, guidance and support to students of the University, placing service excellence at the core of its activity through a team of highly motivated, professional people. Comprising of a variety of teams geared to support students, student services places student achievement and retention at the core of its business and seeks to take a proactive and innovative approach to the activities offered as part of its core business delivery.
Proactive in its approach, the Mental Health Team supports students experiencing emotional, psychological, or mental health difficulties, providing a timely, accessible, and confidential service.
We are looking for a skilled, qualified practitioner from a professional background, for example, Mental Health Nursing or Social Work, to join our existing Mental and Wellbeing Team.
Applicants should have significant experience in delivering evidence-based interventions to support adult mental health and wellbeing, experience of working within a FE or HE setting would be advantageous.
The Mental Health Practitioner role is integral to the delivery of an excellent, rounded student experience, rooted within our Mental Health Strategy.
The Mental Health Support Team provide specialist, compassionate, individualised support, and intervention for the benefit of all students and the University community.
The team support students by providing advice, guidance and intervention, as well as leading on safeguarding, prevent and risk assessment and management.
All practitioners act as the first point of contact duty person as well as undertaking casework, triage and specialist lead or project work as part of the team and university mental health strategy.
The Directorate is fully committed to ensuring all staff are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to undertake their role as part of a professional, sector-leading service. Staff Development is an integral aspect of supporting staff to deliver services of the highest possible professional standards.
The post holder must be able to deal confidently and effectively with a range of people who are likely to be distressed, displaying a professional, non-judgmental attitude and handling highly confidential matters in a sensitive manner. Central to the role is the ability to work closely as part of a team, excellent decision making and to be adaptable and flexible to meet the needs of both our student population and the institution.
