Building on its strengths in flooding, geoscience, climate change, logistics and computer science, the University of Hull is establishing a Flood Resilience Innovation Centre (FLIC) to provide a nucleation hub for research and innovation focused on flood risk and resilience. The centre will support business innovation through a comprehensive Research and Development service, enabling innovation in flood resilience, mitigation, management and response.    

The £3.4M Flood Resilience Innovation Centre (FLIC) will be based within the University’s Energy & Environment Institute and is supported through £1.9M in funding from the European Regional Development Fund. FLIC will deliver a programme of R&D and Innovation (RDI) support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Humber region and help SMEs access University expertise through collaborative RDI projects and access to specialist equipment procured as part of the project.  Collaborative projects and partnerships may also involve large companies and other research organisations where appropriate.  

The University is now recruiting the FLIC team to innovate, develop and commercialise new products, services and processes addressing flood risk and resilience.  The full team will comprise one Project Manager, one Business Development Manager, three Technical Research Managers, two Researchers, one Finance and Audit Officer and one Administration Officer.  

We are seeking a talented and experienced individual for the following vacancy:

Business Development Manager (ref AE0163) – will work across the Humber LEP area to engage SMEs across multiple sectors, identify relevant product, process and service innovations, and secure collaborative partnerships.  The post holder will work with other members of the team, particularly the Technical Research Managers, to ensure appropriate provision of expertise to beneficiary SMEs to develop, implement and exploit R&D and innovation activities eligible under the project.   

The position is fixed term as outlined in the Job Description, with the possibility of extension subject to funding and project requirements.
