Faculty/Area:  Hull York Medical School
Department:  Hull York Medical School
Salary:  £40,523 to £46,925 per annum
Fixed Term
Post Type:  Full Time
Closing Date:  Thursday 23 March 2017
Interview Date:  Thursday 06 April 2017

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Project Manager to manage the development of the Hull Health Trials Unit (HHTU) at the University of Hull.

The recently established Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the University of Hull comprises three schools: the Hull York Medical School (HYMS, a partnership with the University of York), the School of Health and Social Work (SHSW) and the School of Life Sciences (SLS). FHS has ambitious plans for research growth in biomedical, applied health and clinical research. This growth is supported and enabled by a £28m investment by the University of Hull in a new Health Campus development and the establishment of an Institute for Clinical and Applied Health Research (ICAHR).

The formation of the Institute will be accompanied by a major investment in academic and clinical academic staff and the establishment of strong methods and support infrastructure. At its heart will be a new Hull Health Trials Unit (HHTU), developed in conjunction with the Hull & East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. The HHTU will consolidate existing activity in support of trials and our ambition is that the combination of existing expertise combined with new investment in leadership, management and infrastructure will create a top-quality trials unit with a clear pathway to become UKCRC Registered.

This is a great opportunity to shape the development of the HHTU, which will be an engine for growth in trials activity across the area and co-operation between the University and the Hull & East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Project Manager will support the setup of the HHTU working closely with colleagues in the University of Hull, the Faculty of Health Sciences, the medical school and the Trust. They will support the Chair of the HHTU Implementation Group, Professor Miriam Johnson, and on their appointment, the Director of the HHTU.

You will need to have experience of clinical trials and sound project management skills, together with the enthusiasm and drive to make real our ambitious vision for the Unit. You will also need strong partnership working skills to liaise across the various partners and stakeholders.  You will also need exceptional organisational and communication skills and the ability to work independently and with initiative.

This role is available as a 1-year fixed-term contract in the first instance starting as soon as possible and could be available as a part-time opportunity. Secondment from NHS organisations would also be considered.

This post will be based principally at the University of Hull in the brand new Allam Medical Building, but you will also establish regular presence at Castle Hill Hospital.

For more information or an informal discussion, candidates are welcome to contact Miriam Johnston, Professor of Palliative Medicine, HYMS, UNiversity of Hull (Miriam.johnson@hyms.ac.uk) or James Illingworth, R&D Manager, Hull & East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust (James.Illingworth@hey.nhs.uk).

The closing date for this job vacancy has now passed, and applications are no longer being accepted for this position
