Reference:  HY0203
Campus:  Hull and Region
Faculty/Area:  Hull York Medical School
Department:  Hull York Medical School
Salary:  £26,565 to £35,577 Agenda for Change
Post Type:  Part Time
Closing Date:  Friday 30 March 2018
Interview Date:  Tuesday 10 April 2018

This post is part-time (50%) fixed term for 12 months with a view to being extended beyond this period.

This Post requires an enhanced clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service for Adult Workforce.

Secondment opportunities will be considered.

This post is based within the University of Hull’s Primary Care & Palliative Care Research Group in the Hull York Medical School (HYMS).  The post holder will be providing support to the Bowel Scope Screening Study, which is funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research, and is a HYMS/University College London (UCL) collaboration.

This Randomised Controlled Trial aims to investigate the potential of primary care in increasing BSS uptake. We will explore ways in which General Practitioners (GPs) can encourage their patients to consider BSS. We will work with GP practices in Hull to engage with screening invitees and support them to attend their appointment. We will develop interventions that could result in increased uptake of BSS. These will include a GP endorsed primer letter and leaflet, and two different types of GP reminders (letter vs. phone). We will work with established community organisations, some of whom we have already worked with, to recruit participants for the study. The role will require the research nurse to:

  • Liaise with each GP practice to set up and manage each study database
  • Monitor eligibility for interventions and arrange the appropriate mail-outs
  • Co-ordinate and lead the delivery of patient navigation with support from a Research Assistant
  • Contribute to other research activities within the research group as required
  • Liaise with other members of the research group and collaborators so as to facilitate successful team working.

The post will be based in Hull, but will involve some travel to other areas in the Yorkshire region.  To discuss this role informally, please contact Dr Trish Green, Senior Research Fellow   T: 01482 463392
