Hull York Medical School is an ambitious medical school with a strong track record of innovation in advanced healthcare research to improve diagnosis, treatment and care of patients.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic post-doctoral research associate to examine molecular pathways underlying the vascular inflammation and re-modelling responsible for coronary heart disease. You will be working in the laboratory of Professor Tim Palmer, Head of the Centre for Atherothrombosis and Metabolic Disease. The main role is to develop and utilise primary cell systems to target key mechanisms responsible for vascular inflammation and re-modelling. This will include design and carrying out of experiments, data collection and analysis, and disseminating research findings by presentation at conferences and generation of high quality publications. You will have a familiarity with cell culture and technologies, which underpin target identification for new therapeutics, for example use of molecular biology and viral expression systems to manipulate biological targets in vitro. You will also have excellent research potential, as demonstrated by publications of international quality. You will have the research skills and experience to work independently and you will contribute to the development of new ideas for future research studies and bids for external funding from the Centre.

You should have a PhD in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, pharmacology or a related discipline and wish to continue a career in biomedical research.

The postholder will also have the opportunity to develop teaching skills with undergraduate and postgraduate students and will have a role in helping design and supervise undergraduate research projects.

Informal enquiries prior to application may be made to Professor Tim Palmer, Head of the Centre for Atherothrombosis and Metabolic Disease (E-mail: Tim.Palmer@hyms.ac.uk; Tel: 01482 465511).
