This post is 0.8 full time equivalent, fixed term for 20 months.

This post has become available as part of a Marie Curie funded project: Research Assessment Outcome Measures for Malignant Bowel Obstruction (RAMBO). The post will be hosted by the University of Hull’s Wolfson Palliative Care Research Centre. Dr Jason Boland is the lead investigator for the project, which represents collaboration between researchers in the Universities of Hull and Cardiff.

Malignant bowel obstruction is a common, distressing complication of cancer, yet there is no agreed core outcome set for consistent clinical and research evaluation. We need outcome measures to reflect what is important to patients and carers, and the benefit they consider to be clinically meaningful. The overall aim of this project is to review the current scope of outcome measures used to evaluate malignant bowel obstruction and develop a set of core outcomes that is specific to malignant bowel obstruction. This will involve conducting a systematic review, interviewing patients and healthcare professionals, and a Delphi process.

The project will use a variety of methods commonly used in health services research, and we are looking for a researcher who understands mixed methods and, in particular, has systematic review, qualitative interviewing and analysis skills. You will be post-doctoral (Band 7).

To discuss this role informally, please contact Dr Jason Boland (E-mail jason.boland@hyms.ac.uk )
