Post Doctoral Research Fellow

Diabetes research group, Hull York Medical School, University of Hull

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join the research team in the Hull York Medical School at University of Hull campus.

The project will investigate novel Ca2+ channels and intracellular Ca2+ signalling in the regulation of cell function and the development of diabetic complications (J Mol Med 2015;93:511-21; Nature Communications 2017;8:1920). The post holder will involve high-throughput screening of compounds using Flexstation 3, and carry out original research into understanding new ion channel biomarkers, pathophysiological mechanisms, and therapeutic targets of diabetic kidney disease. The post will be based in the research group of Dr Sam Xu and the project is funded by European Commission.

The successful applicant should have a PhD ( or completed PhD study) in biomedical or life sciences or medicinal chemistry with excellent research abilities in molecular biology, Ca2+ signalling, or drug discovery. Experience in cell culture, ion channel research, compound synthesis/screening using Flexstation 3 is desirable, ideally the techniques in patch clamp, calcium imaging or synthetic chemistry. You are expected to work independently with good verbal and written communications with others in the group.

The Hull York Medical School (HYMS) brings together the strengths of the Universities of Hull and York in life, clinical, health and social sciences in partnership with the NHS. Our current focus is on the development of biomedical research, which achieved high standards in both Universities in the last Research Excellence Framework (REF). In Hull, there is a particular emphasis on translational and patient-based biomedical research recently consolidated in the Institute for Clinical and Applied Health Research. Cardiovascular orientated research is the focus and links between metabolism, inflammation and atherothrombotic disease.
