Clinical Educational Facilitator Undergraduate Teaching

Hull York Medical School is looking for practicing clinicians who are passionate about educating the doctors and healthcare professionals of the future.

We are seeking to recruit Facilitators who are available to provide educational support to students in the event of tutor absence. This opportunity will appeal to those with an interest in medical education, but who are unable to commit currently to a substantive role on an on-going basis. As part of the role, training will be provided, as will access to a community of educators within the School.

Opportunities at both the University of Hull and University of York sites can be available.  PBL tutors work in one of the following slots: Monday and Thursday mornings (08:30-12:30) or afternoons (1:30-5:30pm) or Tuesday and Friday mornings (08:30 -12:30) or afternoons (1.30 to 5.30pm) during University term time.

The role will be offered on a ‘Bank’ basis as cover for tutors who are unable to deliver a session for a number of reasons.  At present we are delivering PBL and Clinical Skills session in person.  However we have developed expertise in delivering this teaching remotely during the COVID pandemic.  Training and support for this will be provided.

As well as an enthusiasm for teaching and developing skills in our students, we are looking for clinicians who will inspire students to achieve their best, both academically and professionally, providing strong role models for their subsequent development.  Successful applicants will be keen to develop their educational role; many will not already have experience of Problem Based Learning (PBL) or higher educational qualifications, but we welcome applications from those who are willing to undertake these.

Clinical Educational Facilitator roles are supported with tutoring and student support activities through continued professional development.  There is a robust programme of training, peer support and observation, given in both PBL facilitation and clinical skills teaching.  Successful applicants may find opportunities to contribute to assessment and admissions processes as part of their role. This role will requires To discuss these roles informally, please contact Dr Marie Cohen, Director of PBL, or Dr Chris Buswell, Deputy Director of PBL,
